The replacement of a Peugeot 206 key is a straightforward task that can be completed in just a few minutes. It is all you need to do is transfer the immobilizer chip, battery and electronics from your old keyfob into the new.
Peugeot keyfobs 206 may have an inoperable button-cell battery. This video shows how to replace the button cell battery.
The Immobilizer System
When you insert your Peugeot key into the ignition and turn it, it transmits an electronic signal to the engine management system. If the code doesn't match the code, the engine won't start. This helps prevent unauthorized car theft. An expert locksmith can assist you if your Peugeot immobilizer is not working. They can employ tools from dealers to program a new key, or replace your old one. This will save you time and money. You won't have to wait for long at the dealer because they will be at your location.
Not all antitheft devices created equally. The Thatcham Research organisation tests and grade anti-theft technology in order to ensure that it meets the highest safety standards. They can test the system's functionality by analyzing the messages transmitted between the immobilizer's components and the CAN bus traffic.

But even the best security systems can be hacked if they are targeted properly. In one study the researcher Jan Bokslag used known weaknesses in the Hitag2 immobilizer to stealthily crack three cars, all of them older models. It took only 10 seconds to get the security code of the vehicle from one of them. This data is used to generate an ignition key that disables the immobilizer. The other two were more difficult to break, but they did eventually be broken.
The Immobilizer Chip
A key with a chip is also referred to as a Smart Key, has a RFID microchip which transmits an encrypted passcode from the key to the immobilizer system of the car. If the chip's code matches that on the car's system, then the car will start.
This is a crucial anti-theft device that prevents car thieves from hotwiring or otherwise bypassing the engine immobilizer system. If the immobilizer cannot recognize the key, the engine will not be turned on if anyone attempts to short-circuit the ignition circuit.
Modern cars come with advanced electronic Engine Immobilizers that make use of shifting or rolling codes. The system's intelligent algorithm will alter the second code every time the key is used, and push it into the key's chip. The first code remains permanent and each time the key is put in the ignition, the immobilizer analyzes the two codes to determine if they're compatible.
This is a sophisticated technology that is very difficult to hack. This is the reason that most stolen vehicles can't be powered up. If your Peugeot starts, but then shuts down it's likely to be the immobilizer. It could be one of many electrical issues that are causing the car to not work. Our auto locksmiths are able to help solve these issues. They can also reprogram your chipped or smart Peugeot key to work again.
The Battery
Peugeot keys to cars have the transponder chip that, when coupled with the vehicle, disables the vehicles standard immobiliser system inside the ECU (engine control unit). This allows the vehicle to start, and also allows key fob control of the doors and boot. The chip is hidden inside the head of a manual or remote key.
When the 206 was launched in 1999 Peugeot was facing a lot of competition from superminis, such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. The unique approach of Peugeot's 206 was that it did not directly replace the 205, rather it was designed to sit between the smaller Peugeot 106 and the larger 306 range. The lower models of both the Peugeot 306 and 106 were created to take sales from the higher-end 205s.
The 206 model range includes three models which include the hatchback (206 CC) 2 door cabriolet coupe, and a station wagon (206 SW). There was also an WRC homologated version of the 206, dubbed the 207 GTi that could reach 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and an top speed of 210 km/h.
The peugeot 206 is a well-loved choice of car for those looking for a stylish and affordable family car. Like any vehicle there are problems that may arise. The Key Fob
Peugeot is a French automobile manufacturer founded in 1810. Peugeot is now owned by PSA Peugeot Citroen. Peugeot cars are often considered to be among the top in their class. It is possible to replace your Peugeot key fob if it is worn out or broken. You only need to transfer the immobilizer chip, battery, and electronics from your old key fob to your new one.
Test the new key in your car to ensure it works as intended. Make sure all doors are closed and turn off the ignition and then press the lock button on the fob three times. If the LED stops blinking, it is working. If it's not working you may have forgotten to transfer your transponder chip.
